2018 an year of suprises

ORGASMIC EXPERIENCES around food and cocktails

It seems just like the other day that the year begun and damn it has flown so fast with so much surprises in our market. The following did happen this eventful year and i can tell that there is more to come next year.

During the Nairobi beer Festival organised courtesy of Eat Out Kenya and Baraka Israel there where two major breweries that indeed leave a huge impression. There was  254 brewery and Bateleur brewery, they are microbreweries or craft breweries that offered something quite invigorating to the market.I for one have never been a fan of beer however this two craft breweries did give me a chance to appreciate beer at its finest.

They both offer annual membership to attain there beers at home and due to there uniqueness they have started beer clubs around interesting flavours they have in there beers.254 brewery designed beer that ranges from fruity to chocolate flavours. Bateleur did produce beer with heavy but exciting undertones such as coffee or popcorn roast.

254 brewing co founder by Aram Digennaro is on to produce world class IPA,stout, cider, lager ,Porter that is craft in East Africa.

@254brewingco check them out

On visiting the Bateleur brewery they took me through there products that gave me the room to respect the craft beer scene with there amazing array of flavours. It gave me room to try out pairings that are impressive.

 yes do try the range @bateleur brewery .

 Dirty Hairy is a craft Copper Ale. It is brewed with Magnum, Cascade and Chinook hops. Its deep amber copper hue comes from the red malt. It has a gentle toffee sweetness and biscuity notes with a fruity & floral aroma and toasted malt. It's ABV (Alcohol by volume) is 5%.

 Without doubt, this is one of the favorites. Bila Shaka Indian Pale Ale. Heavy on hops with citrus (Grapefruit), hints of spice and tropical fruit. it has a dark golden hue and a strong aroma with distinct bitter finish. ABV 6%. Hops: Magnum, Cascade and Chinook. Get hopped with Bila Shaka and let us have your feedback.

Dire Straits Golden Lager. Czech Pilsen style with bright golden colour. Crisp and delicate taste with resinous and earthy characteristics. Mildly herby/spicy. Gentle bitterness. ABV 5%. Hops: Magnum & Styrian-Golding. Don't Worry, Be Hoppy!

Tandala is our wheat beer. A special German yeast strain and use of malted wheat give this wheat beer its distinctive banana and clove aroma. It is unfiltered so that the yeast lends a creamy texture.

While both are craft i found it easy to do craft cocktails with 254 beers and bateleur gave room to pairing with foods.

Immediately after that there some new releases that i was expecting to see and definitely did i see .The Bacardi East Africa team finally brought in D'usse . Dusse is the cognac brand that those of you who listen to Jay z is the global brand face. Dusse is not just a cognac its is exceptional in its production and in its very reflection it speaks volumes in its definition of class and extra ordinary.

If you do love cognac and happen to see this bottle somewhere what makes it special is but the following. It has been aged at least for four and a half years in the cellars of France's Chateau De cognac. It features as a bold ,full bodied blend that arouses the palate. On the nose it has a bouquet of rich woody and floral notes. It finishes of with subtle accents of honey and dried fruits. It is impressively smooth.

This is a cognac that sits out as a great sipper but also works amazing well in various cocktails .I actually tried it out on a twist of the old fashioned and i would recommend you try.I will be will to share my recipes on this amazing liquid. Dusse sits on top of the to have list of exceptional cognacs to have in the house.

The year kept getting better i then had a chance to see and sample Appleton and Espolon tequila by Gruppo Campari late September. After much growth of rum and tequila in the global market we finally had in the market something we could enjoy.

Campari Kenya in partnership with Coca Cola Kenya at there academy gave me the opportunity to engage on this two products. To all Kenyans out there the game has been raised.Talking about premium rum Appleton is by far the most premium rum in the market.

Appleton Rum is from Jamaica it is the heart and soul of Jamaica. In our market we currently have the signature blend ,the reserve blend and the 12 year old .However in other markets such as canada they do have the limited versions such as the 15 year old and 25 years .I will cover this in a later blog.
